Back in the Provinces!

Doug! Aweh, my bru!

Survived Jozi with only a few days worth of babbelas, and I'm back in British Columbia. Thanks for the birthday wishes on your blog - I smaak you stukkend, boet. I like your enthusiasm.

I made sure to have one of my mates take a photo of me holding your name up on a sign (from a local food festival going on in the city) so you'd believe me about who I was...

Catching up on your blog, you've got a great range of stuff going on. I love the really alien creature concepts in particular.

Speaking of concepts, have you seen this piece of concept art from my movie, by super cool cat Greg Broadmore at Weta (the loon behind all those cool pulp sci-fi raygun designs)?

Have you ever done any comic book superhero concepts? I had an interesting talk with some guys at WB a few days before my last post...

Getting back to the whole lunch thing, I have big news on that front, especially given your passport woes - I can get away to meet you there for lunch as soon as today, if you want, but there's an email on the way to you now about that development. Let's eat!

Live in Joburg

Doug, my bra, howzit china ha ha?

I'm back home in Jozi for my 30th birthday (only a couple of hours away now; I need to start drinking in earnest). It's hot here -- been in the 30s since I got back, so I guess it's summer here already.

I had some interesting meetings in L.A. before I left your hemisphere about that potential next project, which I'm convinced is even more perfect for you since seeing that whale concept thing on your blog (took me awhile to catch up on that; stupid slow SA internet).

One of the local awful lifeforms just skittered past, and reminded me all over again why I chose Parktown Prawns for my aliens in District 9 -- our giant, indestructible king crickets (they are actually wetas, like the shop that did my the FX for my movie and Peter's Rings trilogy) of Joburg can't help but give anyone the creeps. They jump right at you, shit stinking ink at you, and the barbs on their legs hurt, not to mention they get as big as 20 cm! We used to toss the evil things in the braai when I was a kid and the goggas would POP in the flame (that's what inspired that baby prawn - burning scene in my movie)...

Glad you are still as enthusiastic to do something together. We'll hook up for that lunch when I'm back in B.C. ....!

I'm not accustomed to being ignored, Doug Williams

Doug (can I call you Doug?),

I've not been in the position of being the guy waiting by the phone, as it were, and I confess to being a trifle disturbed that you have not been in contact with me by this point. My American friends tell me that yesterday was Labour Day in the States, and thus I imagine you were celebrating the accomplishments of the Labour Party in your Commonwealth and too busy perhaps to follow up on my entreaty to you that we combine talents.

Maybe I am being hasty in my impatience. On your blog you mention your family and I imagine that must take up some of your attention as well, so I will allow you some extra time to act on what I felt was a sincere and generous appeal to your creative sensibilities.

I very much hope to one day call you friend. Also, I am very hungry as I skipped lunch this afternoon in hopes that you might be on your way to British Columbia to meet me and have a chat over lunch. I tried several local A&W establishments and also three Tim Horton's restaurants, to no avail. I came to understand that you were not coming today and so, I return to the waiting game.

No worries! I am hard at work on a little secret project that I can't wait to tell you about. When you contact me, that is.

Okay, you have my attention, Doug Williams

Hello Doug Williams.

I am flattered that you would create a blog dedicated to catching my attention, and could only respond in kind.

Your enthusiasm intrigues me, Mr. Doug Williams, and I really insist that we do lunch to discuss whether you should be working with me (or possibly if I should work for you).

The only question that remains is where we should do said lunch? I see you are in nearby Washington State, USA. Could you meet me in Vancouver, British Columbia for lunch sometime this week? I like the soup and sandwich combo at Tim Horton's, and the Chubby Chicken and Poutine at A&W, but I am open to suggestion.

The important thing is for us to collaborate immediately and thus ruthlessly conquer the international box office while innovating the possibilities of the cinematic arts.

I expect great things to happen when we meet, Doug Williams.
